T.J. Ross Past and Present
Meet the T.J. Ross Family
In the past….
Welcome to T.J. Ross. We are a family run business that was originally set up by Tom James Ross and his wife, Irene in 1978. Starting out as a carpenter and joiner, Tom went on to grow the business from himself and two others to a team of seven experienced carpenters. Since 1978, T.J. Ross has stood for quality, value and craftsmanship with all products and wood being selected from nationally recognised suppliers.
After 14 years Tom Ross sold the business to Martin Richardson and thus T.J. Ross moved from one family and generation to another.
Present…
T.J. Ross now has over twenty employees and is owned and managed by Martin Richardson. Martin qualified with an Honours in Building from Heriot Watt University in 1977 and set up his own building company, MMR Ltd, in 1988, after having worked for another local family business, A. B. Cant Ltd of Dunfermline. In 1989 Martin met Tom Ross through a communal client and his building company MMR Ltd. became a client of T.J. Ross, having recognised the high quality of manufactured joinery work would compliment their building projects. In 1992 Tom offered Martin the opportunity to purchase T.J. Ross in a bid to continue the growth of the business and the supply of expert craftsmanship. Martin has a real passion for timber and the creation of quality, beautiful products. He could instantly see the potential T.J. Ross had as a business and the loyalty and trust from their customers, having been one himself.
Since taking over T.J. Ross, Martin has gone on to grow the company working in some of the most beautiful homes and businesses in Scotland. Having already had a background in commercial property T.J. Ross now supplies beautiful timber interiors and exteriors for businesses whether the leisure industry, retail or office renovation market. New products and services have since been introduced such as roof lanterns and garden rooms as well as offering further services in the fitting and instalment of our products. T.J. Ross is particularly proud of our range of stunning sash and case windows currently unrivalled in terms of quality, choice and durability, so much so that even our competitors use examples of our work on their websites!
In 2002 Martin’s son Alyn Richardson joined the company as a joiner apprentice and is now helping his Dad to run the company with a view to taking the helm in the future.

What motivates inspires and drives our customer service is knowing the difference we are making to your family and to future generations.
T.J. Ross - from one family and generation to another.
At T.J. Ross we have the experience of developing the ability of mixing traditional joinery techniques with modern ideas, like gaskets, micro-porous stains, modern ironmongery and have used this experience to allow us to manufacture windows doors and cabinetry for the more contemporary architecture that is popular today.
